We are pleased to announce Bichon Rescue of Orange County California - Seniors for Seniors is celebrating ten years of dedication to the rehabilitation, rehoming and sanctuary of senior Bichon Frises, Bichon mixes and other non- shedding, small breeds. Since we took in our very first BROC pup in September of 2014, we have successfully placed with forever families or provided sanctuary for dogs who, for various reasons, could no longer be cared for by their guardians.
We never imagined the joy we would bring to so many wonderful senior dogs and senior adopters. We have so many stories from our senior adopters of how their senior fluff has enriched their lives. Our success has been the result of a wonderful group of dedicated volunteers, loving adopters, as well as animal lovers who provide life-saving financial support. No matter what your role with BROC has been, we want to express our heartfelt thanks for your generous support over the years.
We couldn't have done it without you!
Last year’s gathering was a tremendous success, not only in achieving our financial goals but also in creating a festive, memorable afternoon for Bichon lovers. Guests indulged in a delightful charcuterie spread and an array of wines and beverages, all while soaking in the breathtaking backyard views of one of our longtime supporters.
We had so much fun meeting the adorable pups that joined the event, watching them play on the spacious lawn. Our dedicated volunteers, who make all our good work possible, enjoyed the chance to connect with past adopters and prospective new families.
The afternoon was filled with entertainment, brief remarks, and plenty of joyful moments. Guests left with a unique gift as a reminder of the special day.
We warmly invite you to join us on October 12th for another wonderful afternoon of fun, community, and support for our rescue efforts. We can't wait to see you there!
Bichon Rescue of Orange County believes that ALL dogs deserve a chance at a life where they have an opportunity to be loved and cared for. This is why we often find ourselves with pups that require more love, attention and medical needs than others. They may have chronic health problems which require an unusual amount of care and expense, they may be severely disabled, they may be elderly or have behavioral setbacks which cause them to be unable to adapt to the new situations of adoptive families We feel that despite their special needs, whatever it may be, these dogs should live out the rest of their lives in a safe and loving home and to be cared for with the respect and dignity they deserve.
These pups remain with BROC in our Senior Sunsetter Sanctuary. Special foster families have opened their hearts and homes to provide a loving environment where these pups can live out the rest of their days, while BROC continues to provide for all their needs.
Maintaining the best quality of life for our Senior Sunsetters requires additional funding. Today, donations received to adopt a pup do not cover the basic care and medical expenses for a rescued pup leaving no additional funds to provide for those in sanctuary with continued special care and medical needs.
You can sponsor one of our Senior Sunsetters by designating your donation for our Senior Sunsetter Sanctuary. Your contribution provides ongoing medical care and treatment, as well as food, grooming and supplies for these pups.
Without sponsors like you, BROC could not continue its mission of protecting and caring for older pups that cannot be adopted. In return for your support, you may receive a photo of the pup you have chosen to sponsor. You may also receive periodic updates from your pup signed with an authentic paw print. If possible, we can arrange for a visit with the pup you sponsor. Please be sure to tell us which pup you choose to sponsor.
By designating your contribution specifically to the Senior Sunsetter Sanctuary, your financial gift will help us continue to save many more dogs, and to provide our Senior Sunsetters with a well-deserved life of ease and contentment.
One of our core BROC beliefs is that age is just a number and the companionship of a senior fluff can oftentimes help improve the physical and mental health of senior citizens. Our sanctuary provides a fusion of traditional Bichon adoption and fostering. The aim is to help these special senior pups find a forever home to spend their golden years. To sanctuary a pup allows approved fosters and adopters to take home a senior pup (age 10+) to love and care for with the continued BROC support. This can be an excellent option for a senior in good health who just wants to love a pup. Become a true-lifesaver and apply to become a forever foster in our Senior Sunsetter Sanctuary!
Dexter is a special-needs pup who got dealt a bad hand in life, but absolutely does not let that get him down. Dexter was born with a neurological disorder that affects his equilibrium and ability to walk. Despite that, he lives and loves life to its fullest! BROC has equipped Dexter with doggie wheels so he can "run" and play with other dogs, but even without wheels he is quite mobile in his own unique style. Dexter is housebroken and only need to be taken to the "potty place" a few times a day. Apart from his neurological condition, he is a normal, healthy dog who is full of joy and very loving. If you have room in your heart and home for Dexter, please complete an adoption application at:
Snowball was abandoned by his long-time family at a shelter, but nobody knows why. He never barks and is relatively healthy for his age of 13. He is super mellow and loves nothing more than to cuddle with his person. Snowball is also very amiable and just rolls with the flow. He's great with people and other dogs, and also good on walks and in a car. He is housebroken as long as he gets let out at reasonable intervals. How much better can it get? With those unique eyes and adorable pink nose, we think he is pretty special. If you have room in your heart and home for Snowball, please complete an adoption application at:
With broken hearts and buckets of tears, we're letting our supporters know that our precious Candi crossed the Rainbow Bridge on August 11. Despite heroic measures by her loving fosters and vet team, it was impossible for her to breathe, so we had to make the difficult decision to end her suffering. We knew her condition was fragile, yet we'd hoped she would have just a little more time with us.
You may remember that Candi was having trouble breathing when she was rescued by BROC. After being rushed to the vet and then transferred to a specialty hospital, she was placed in an oxygen chamber to restore her breathing back to normal. Afterward the team performed an endoscopy, which revealed she has a collapsing trachea, where the cartilage in her trachea had been damaged, probably due to a severe trauma.
We're grateful to all of the people who donated to her care and who offered to adopt her. Your support DID make a difference. It kept our girl alive as long as possible in a loving home, with all the medical care she needed to be comfortable. With so much in life out of our control, that's something to be grateful for. Rest in peace, darling Candi.
To those who wish to make a donation in memory of Candi and help other pups like her, please go to:
